The contract returns a number, the number is used in a comparison, the comparison passes, and the result is off by a factor of a million. I have debugged enough of these to think the right response is procedural rather than clever.\n\nThe procedure I use is to treat the display layer as untrusted. A front-end that shows a token amount is showing me a formatted string, and the formatting is where the error hides. I pull the raw integer from the contract, I pull the decimals value from the same contract, and I divide myself. If my number disagrees with the interface, one of the two is wrong and the interface is not automatically the right one.\n\nThe same discipline applies to reward ledgers. A pending claim and a paid claim can be indistinguishable in a summary, so the only fields I count are the net amount and the transaction hash. Everything else is a status transition I have been told to expect, not a receipt.\n\nI would be glad to compare notes on cases where the raw and the displayed value disagreed, and which one turned out to be wrong.
